Creating a logo that avoids predictable clichés while still honoring the essence of a seaside film festival.
Typical logos for film festivals often rely on overused visuals—film reels, cameras, clapperboards—but for this project, that approach wouldn’t reflect the personality or roots of Film Weston. The challenge was to create something unique, meaningful, and grounded in the community, without falling into design clichés.
A Brand Rooted in Community, Culture, and Nostalgia
The festival needed a visual identity that captured its independent spirit, local roots, and creative ambition. The logo had to feel authentic, nostalgic, and symbolic, while also being bold, modern, and versatile across various applications—digital promotions, printed materials, merchandise, and event signage.
Additionally, the identity needed to reflect Weston-super-Mare’s seaside charm, offering a sense of place and familiarity while appealing to a broad audience of filmmakers, industry professionals, and cinema enthusiasts.
